2019 is known as "the first year of 5G", but before this, 5G mobile phone research and development presented the momentum of thousands of boats, the three major operators, many equipment manufacturers have contributed. As one of the head phone manufacturers, vivo has always been a leader in this field. As early as 2016, vivo set up a 5G R & D center and fully participated in 5G core technology and standardization research. At present, vivo has submitted more than 2200 technical proposals to the 3GPP Standardization Organization. Obviously, vivo has become an important participant in the 5G standard.

Qin Fei, director of research and development of vivo 5G, said that vivo has been conducting 5G field testing with three major operators and their partners. In normal tests, the peak rate of 5G mobile phones can reach 800+Mbps, while the test speed in vivo 5G laboratory is even faster. Up to 1.5+Gbps. But this still does not reach the upper limit. As the 5G network continues to mature, the rate will increase step by step. Vivo is currently following the pace of the operator network construction, speeding up various joint testing to ensure that the first 5G products of vivo will be unveiled in 2019.

What changes will happen to 5G:

Qin Fei: 5G as a communication technology, when we first understand the narrow 5G from the bottom, it is a communication, communication is a channel. I often mention that when 5G changes to our entire industry or the future, we understand it as empowerment and summarize it into three empowerments.

The first one, speed rate. The first thing that this rate of performance brings will be the change of content. Just now, our existing content supports HD video and supports such as AR and VR in the future. In fact, 4G can not be better satisfied. The game is actually one of the contents. It turns out that we think that the various games we play can only be played on the computer, and rarely can be moved to the mobile phone. We feel that the future can be moved to the mobile phone to play.

The second empowerment is the connection empowerment. After the arrival of 5G, at least the side of the end will increase with the phone, such as mobile phones, AR glasses. There will be more things to use in conjunction with the terminal. At the same time, our 5G connectivity is also reflected in the IoT devices that our mobile phones can connect to, including our smart homes, including future smart factories.

The third power is the flow energy. After our 5 gigabytes of formal large-scale commercial, the package traffic of the whole service provider will have a very big improvement. The rate is 5 times 10 times, due to the increase of the station and the improvement of the transmission capacity behind, now unlimited 20 G speed limit, the future may be tens of times, this is the final state of the 5G we are looking forward to. What does it mean if the service provider sends mobile packet traffic a month at 1 T? The difficulties and advantages of vivo in 5G R & D:


The second block, the RF and antenna sections. Especially the antenna, because the same mobile phone is placed there, the antenna represents whether the radiation is good or not. In the weak field environment, it can be very obvious whether the antenna is good or not, and the signal is strong. Not enough. The speed of 5G has become higher, the number of our antennas has increased, and the 5G mobile phone is also a matter of material. So our antenna design is the 8 antennas, plus 4G, 5G, Bluetooth, WiFi, 4G and 5G which antennas are to be shared, and I put it on the corner, or put it on top, below, etc. How do I hold my hand when I call, how do I hold the hand of the game, the details of the scene, considering what our mobile phone is, if it is the main game, hold it in the left and right On both sides, the main antenna is avoided on the left and right sides. We need to combine the 5G scene, put our antenna on, including the size, size, material, etc. of each section. After putting it on, we have to actually try it. During the test, we can adjust it. After a lot of work, we can guarantee Our 5G handsets have better radiated power and better reception accuracy even under very weak conditions or the same antenna area. This is the second part of the hardware.

Looking back at the software part, the software part is the most troublesome in our field test. Vivo hardware is relatively strong, and our design team actually has very powerful experts. The biggest difficulty in the software part is the 5G protocol at this stage. There are more than 20 agreements. In the process of development, everyone's understanding of the agreement is not necessarily the same. From our joint investigation in January this year, we have found that a large number of problems have come to death or will be stuck in a certain scene. In fact, sometimes because of an agreement, your understanding is inconsistent with my understanding. So at this stage, a lot of our testing work is to solve the outfield, assuming that some basic things are running quickly, no problem, but you always switch around with it, all kinds of scenes. For example, if you turn a bend in the parking lot, you must ensure that it is reliable, stable, not dead, and constantly in the scene. Therefore, there are a lot of protocol optimizations. At this stage, the field is still doing these things day and night. The various instability that everyone sees today is almost caused by some problems in the software agreement. This is also some of the difficulties we are currently focusing on.


About SA and NSA

Qin Fei: Regarding SA and NSA, most of the overseas operators are NSAs, including South Korea and Switzerland. The countries that have announced commercial use are all NSAs. China Mobile launched NSA deployment this year, and subsequently promoted SA. China Unicom said early on to do NSA. Telecom is not particularly clear. There are two types of terminals as you said. One type of terminal is supported by both SA and NSA. The so-called SA and NSA are actually the same hardware, but the software is different. One is the core network protocol. 4G to 5G core network. The other one is that I don't have an agreement on the 5G core network. Only the original 4G protocol, after I walked to a certain layer, I turned to 4G, passed the enhanced 4G base station, and then went to the core network. There is a walking stick, 4G is a walking stick, 5G is two legs, which is a thicker pipe than 4G, which is two modes. There are also two types of terminals. One is to support only NSAs. They have software on the upper layer and one is supported on both. One possibility of the first point is that the operator is now required to do so. For the future, the SA plan operator requires the existing network equipment. The 5G base station we are installing now is required to support both SA and NSA in the future. No need to change the hardware, nothing to change, wait until the 5G core network is built, it can be connected, the match is over, the bandwidth is constructed, this is the first point is that the hardware is not needed moveable.

At the same time, in this base station, assuming that you have SA users still, from the second floor is invisible, I can support both SA and NSA at the same time. In China Mobile, I listened to the B option last year. Now some devices have already supported it. But some of them are not supported, they ask for it. At present, the existing network equipment may not be supported, but after the software is upgraded this year, even if it is built, after the software upgrade, a station is there to support both the NSA and the SA. The mobile phone that we originally sent out of pure SA can work in the future, until the mobile phone is gone, China Mobile said that the current network has been cut off, no, I may turn off the base station's NSA, regardless of whether or not Off, it doesn't add extra hardware, and it doesn't add backhaul, it's just a change in the software version, so the worry you just mentioned should not exist.
