Alipay released the overseas mobile payment data during the Spring Festival. The data showed that the number of overseas travel consumers increased the most after 60 years, which was nearly 130% higher than the same period of last year. The middle-aged and elderly people are becoming the main group of outbound tourists.
The trend of overseas consumption upgrades of Chinese people is remarkable. Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen are the cities with the most consumption overseas in the Spring Festival, but the per capita overseas Alipay consumption growth rate of the third- and fourth-tier cities exceeds that of the North.
The fastest growing per capita overseas consumption in the country is Zhoushan, which is 55%; followed by Weifang, which is nearly 50%; the other three cities with an increase of more than 40% are: Lianyungang 44%, Jinhua 43%, and Jilin City 40%.
"We have seen a rapid growth in the use of Alipay abroad by third-and fourth-tier urban residents and middle-aged and elderly people," said Chen Jiayi, director of Alipay's international business. "this shows that overseas mobile payments are rapidly gaining popularity."
Outbound travel has become the choice of more and more Chinese people's long vacation. According to the Spring Festival travel data released by Feifei, the number of overseas tourists increased by 28% during the Spring Festival this year. In order to meet the needs of users, Alipay had set a small goal: to fight for Chinese outbound travel within 5 years without a wallet.
Alipay has covered more than 40 countries and regions around the world. During the Spring Festival, 100 businesses around the world have become Chinese tourists'"walle-free" destinations.
